This record group consists of various records and rosters relating to Michigan citizens who fought in the Civil War. The record group includes: roster of commissioned officers in Michigan volunteers (1861-65); index of commissioned officers and record books (1861-65); record of commissions (1862-66); abstract returns of military force (1862-63); resignations of officers (1862-65); consolidated tri-monthly report of enlisted men in United States Army credited to Michigan (1864-65); reports of vacancies in various regiments (1862-65); reports of brevets to Michigan officers (1864-65); claims submitted to the State Military Board for expenses incurred for subsisting and transporting the Lafayette Light Guard (4th Michigan Infantry) from Paw Paw, Michigan to New York (1861-63); barrack returns (1863), a register of recruits reporting at Detroit Barracks, and a tri-monthly report of sick and wounded soldiers at the Detroit Barracks Hospital; and a descriptive list of deserters (1864-65).
